but why do I talk of winter, at any rate for this year. This is now the 20th January, and we have had as yet but four frosts, & these slight. Nothing but rain, rain, rain. We seem to [indecipherable] in the large Aquarium. The consequence is that all bulbs are [indecipherable] above ground. The Snowdrops are in blossom & the crocuses beginning to bloom, while the buds of shrubs & trees are already looking green. Of course weather comes after this. No flowers or fruit for 77, but sometimes I think that we shall tide over the season in that the usual amount of cold just as I hope, the hope being founded on the [indecipherable] wish that we
