I had a charming time of it in Italy. The weather was simply perfect all the time of our week, while here it is cold & damp, perpetual rain in fact. I only wonder how I have not been laid up with cold & rheumatism but I returned to winter clothing on landing reaching France & have thus I imagine [indecipherable] myself. I had the most exquisite days crossing the Simplon. The land was all [indecipherable] except in the deep ravines & of course on the mountain tops & all the alpine flowers were in full beauty. Those three days were worth all the rest of the journey together to me. Next to thost two days I spent in the Islets, I. Bella & Madre in the Lago Maggiore, where the Rhododendrons
