He writes to me that he cannot bear suspense any longer & that he fully intends to apply to be superseded in January or February next with the view of immediately proceeding to New South Wales. I have written to him to know how this will affect his professional prospects, for I confess that I am very anxious that he should not lose his chances of obtaining his high step, but whatever may be the consequences I cannot blame the determination he seems to have arrived at. He is a fine young fellow, and if he can win dear Elizabeth's affections I think from what you have known of him that he will obtain your approval as well as that of her Parents. It is not more than a year since we were all there & sniffing up those most [indecipherable] & full-like odours
