[Page 90]

is a very big, fine looking woman. She would make two of the King & was dressed in a perfectly fitting gray costume with a tall hat carrying many feathers. Following came Prince Albert & Princess  Mary dressed after the same fashion as K & Q.

The design of the chapel - which is a young cathedral - is rather peculiar. Instead of the ordinary wooden altar screen which you can generally see through was a solid stone one containing a small door only & the service was carried on inside out of sight of people in any other part of the building, so after the service a crowd of the congregation rushed up to try and see inside. But the verger would not allow anyone inside. However my old lady obtained permission for me being a soldier so I  was the only one allowed in. The picture shows what was inside but does not show the King's throne at this end. Above the solid oak carved choir stalls hangs the banners of the Knights of the Garter & Lord Kithener's is the fourth from the end on the left.   When a Knight dies his banner is taken down & his coat of arms is put on a brass plate on the back of the stall - you can see some in the picture.
