Last night I took part in a debate on 'should the captured islands in the Pacific be handed over to Australia or administered by the League of Nations as outlined by President Wilson'. I spoke on the opposition but we were beaten. Nearly every afternoon there is a game of football or basket ball on & every morning I have a ten mile ride on horse back for the mail. All this relieves the monotony of life in a dead French village. The last few days have been cold but beautifully fine with frosts. There is a fair amount of ice about but the ground is dry & this is much preferable to rain. It had rained here for six weeks on end & I don't think I had dry feet at any time during that spell.

We can't get leave out of the Brigade area. Abbéville is the only town of any size near us & that
