Any amount of Cinema shows of which the Gaumont is the king - it is a fine place & we had parties there twice. On the whole I was disappointed in Paris music but it was wartime & one can't expect much. Paris is very dull at night after about 8.30 o'clock the streets are deserted. The city is lit up much more than London but in peace time the people say the streets are a flood of light & life only begins at 9 o'clock. It certainly must be wonderfully gay and I am anticipating a return there after the war. Food doesn't seem to be too short there except sugar & no one is allowed to get more than their share.

It is the custom among ladies going to afternoon tea to take sugar with them in a little silk bag.

The people at our place were very interested in home & asked me all the family history & what I used to do for a crust. I showed them all my photos & they went mad over Jack. They thought he was a lovely child. As usual in these countries tipping is the custom. It is a most objectionable
