education to us & broadening of our minds. My experience is that you don't know what men are until you live with them - you don't know what a wonderful amount of good there is in every man until then. It is under these conditions that men can show & do show their wonderful selfishness & good heartedness. What one feels is that he can't do enough for the wounded & they think they are giving you an awful lot of trouble & invariably want to get off the stretcher & walk. I had   often heard that men love men but didn't understand it till now. It is wonderful to think that the God in man is brought out so prominently under the most awful of conditions. This seems to be everyones experience  & after a stunt you discussing the adventures you hear plenty of admiration for the wounded by the stretcher bearers above all else. We just went through another stunt the other night but they are getting quite common now. It was particularly beautiful that night though the bombardment lasted for an hour & a half  & Fritz was sending up all coloured flares & using searchlights making it as bright as day. His trenches were alive of bursting shells & rolling smoke. It is wonderful to watch, though he could not have had a yard of trench left when we had finished.
