like a well kept park - not at all rugged - everything is shapely & regular.
We had hoped to do an all day excursion from Glasgow through the lakes - Loch Lomond & the Trossacs [Trossachs] - back to Edinburgh but the trip had closed with the summer.
We caught the express that night from Glasgow, arrived for breakfast on Monday morning & trained to Brighton. Then we hopped from the height of natural beautiful to that of the artificial, civilised & up to date. Brighton is a great pleasure place possessing two fine piers, beautiful parades & flash hotels. On each pier is a theatre & winter garden & one of the latter is particularly fine. Built of glass & decorated with flowers & patins it contains a fine band stand, where two performances are given daily, ornamental fountains - carpeted & furnished with pretty little tables & chairs where people "feed" & enjoy life & gaiety to the accompaniment of good music. The whole piers are studded with electric globes & in peacetime at night must be one huge blaze of brilliancy. Now of course war has put a different aspect on things & these pleasure
