No. 49
France
30/8/17

Dear Mother,

Since last letter I have received three from you Nos. 45, 37 & 38 of 17th 24th & 26th June & one from Dad of 27th June containing half a sovereign for which many thanks. We received a bosker mail lately. Got about 9 letters out of it & two parcels from Jean & some photos. I think the photos are great particularly of Jack - they are the best of him I have seen I think. The boys think he is a lovely kid & I am proud of him. I would have the one of him standing on the seat looking up enlarged, it is a beauty.

You seem to get a lot of rumours about "no more letters for a month" & such like - we get the same kind of thing but they are never true - we are quite used to them now - believe nothing till it happens. We get dozens of "feurfies", we call them, about moving to all kinds of places - today we are going to the East tomorrow to the west & to all parts of the line but nothing ever happens. As I told Jean I haven't seen "Armand" lately and do not expect to see him for a long time. We got a severe shaking up just lately with Fritz's shells - there can't be much of him left from what I hear.

I suppose all the mail is coming via America now that the P&O service has stopped.

I believe Dad has a weak spot for Jeannie. She seems to be a general favourite, she is a fine kid though, everyone falls in love with her.
