where they made the natives scramble for them.

We went out to see the old village blacksmith &  the spreading chestnut tree the other afternoon - also saw the church near by where he used to listen to  his daughters voice. One is rather disappointed with the place however. There is no appearance of romance or age about it.

The churches though are favourite amongst the sight seers. Each one is wrapped up in its own history, mystery  & supposition  & not one of them dates back less than eight or nine hundred years. The oldest round here is 1100 years.
