country over good English roads at about thirty miles an hour. Jack & I are particularly lucky wherever we go we seem to strike good luck & have a great time.

We have engaged two bikes for next weekend & intend going again to Salisbury on Saturday afternoon & were thinking about visiting Winchester on Sunday which I believe possesses a fine Cathedral & King Arthur's Round Table beside being one of the oldest cities in England. We pay 3/- for the hire of the bike & get the money back if it rains. I don't know why they call the English people a nation of shop-keepers, they are certainly not business people - we noticed this everywhere.   Even in London they don't seem to have the idea of running places such as cafes like Sydney. As we often  hear in Sydney too the shops do nothing like Farmers' & Jones as far as window displays are concerned.   The cafes & eating houses have not the gay open appearance like ours. You have to look for the places & when inside they are old dungeon-like places. Of course the big hotels are all right - we had a look in the dining room
