Dear Dad,
We are still here but are seeing the last days. In two days time we will be on our way to France but by which route no-one knows. During the last week it has been excepionally cold & for the last two days snow has been falling exceptionally. It lay everywhere about three inches thick & everything looks beautiful [indecipherable] the thick white carpet especially Stonehenge. Looking out over the bare plain is just like the dreary polar pictures. Snowballing has been raging being so novel to the Australians - they home made snow men kangaroos & all kinds of snow creatures.
We were very lucky seeing snow so early & so much of it for the cold snap it was as cold, the 'pommies' say, as they ever get it. It wasn't too bad by any means. If it never gets any colder we all will be satisfied. So long as you can keep moving you can keep warm easily, but once you stop your feet begin to freeze. I got several
