was in a shop buying a pipe & asked the lady where we could get a feed. We told her about the hotel turning us down the day before. So she wrote out a recommendation to the proprietress to give tea to ten Australians. A lot of these towns only cater for officers & British tommies. It is either a five course dinner or chips & eggs. The tommies generally only get very small pay & can't patronise the big places. In London all the big restaurants were infested with officers & Australian privates. After we broke the ice all our chaps used to go to this place for a feed & get a private room.
We rested for about five days & then took over a dressing station. There is not too much to do here & it isn't a bad place. We do a bit of route marching & a little drill
