just finished washing up with a piece of sand bag in a tin hat & having made a glowing charcoal fire have settled down to writing letters. Generally of a night we play "500" as last night up to half past twelve but we are off it tonight. We are living very economically nowadays. Rise at 10.30, Breakfast - porridge & bacon - 11.30, Dinner 4.30 & light supper at 8.30. Practically two meals a day. This particular dugout although pretty close up to the line is rather palatial, 30' long by 10' wide - built of concrete & heavily sandbagged. It was originally intended for a Dressing Station but is not used as such. It is at present a home for four stretcher bearers & good one at that.

I have not yet told you that I received two parcels the other day. One posted on 22/12/16 in place of the Xmas parcel you  sent by the Arabia & the other on 3/1/17 for New Year. We could not have received them at a better time. Being in the trenches they just came when we wanted them & they were appreciated not a little bit. We soon finished off the cake for suppers & between meal snacks & the pudding - well I have
