In London or England it is hopeless for an outsider & especially a soldier to come into contact with good English families without good recommendations. There are hundreds of girls in London & hundreds a soldier could meet if he wanted to but those you can meet easily are not worth meeting if you can see what I mean. The trouble too is that opinions of English people expressed generally by soldiers is based almost always on what they meet in London. The true people of England Scotland & Ireland are fine & most hospitable from what I have seen.

The last day I went out to see Helen Crabbe. She is OK & wishes to be remembered. She says you write sometimes. She has been on war work in Paris & London all this while till lately. Now she is going to start a studio in London. Tell Dad
