& [indecipherable]  the waters have effected some wonderful cures.  We had a drink of some tepid water  & saw all the modern baths  & some of the ruins of the old Roman baths built in 863 B.C. The modern baths are luxuriously fitted out with lounges  & cooling rooms & a beautiful hall where classic concerts are held every day in the week for the benefit of tourists.   On one side is set up a fine marble fountain out of which spouts this spring water which is sold at 2d a pint.   Jack & I tasted of it for curiosity.   The place also possesses  two fine flash hotels also for the accomodation of the visitors but beyond these there is nothing else to see except the Abbey, a very fine building only about 400 years old which is fairly modern for English churches.   We attended service there & heard some very fine music & singing by a choir of altar boys.   Sunday is a bad day for sight seeing in England outside of London as the day is very much respected & towns seem deserted.

Today I received a parcel from you containing socks, handkerchiefs, etc O.K.   I gave one pair away
