Thank Mrs Hall too for the socks she sent me. They are ok. Yes I remember Nell one of Jean's friends. She is a trick of a girl very nice too.

What did you think of Merv Cox. Isn't he a trick but a bosker chap. I liked him very much. He wrote me a letter telling me of his visit.  One of the funniest letters I have read. He  said he lied as he never lied before & if I don't send a ransom he will "put across a few Johnnies" the next time he goes out.

Of course everyone who goes home is in honour bound not to tell any unfavourable tales. These are "Johnnies" or "John  Nortons" and I am threatened with exposure if the ransom doesn't turn up. I remember well the day in Ploegsteert Wood he lent me a "greenie"  so I  could write to Jean. He always used to tell me if he  beat me home he would cut me out. Little did he think he would get home so soon. Don't forget to ask him out again.
