Letter No 2.
At sea
15/5/16

Dear Mother,

This is practically a continuation of letter No 1 so read that first.

Jack, I, Ron  & his brother are sitting on deck feeling much better now - able to sit up and write - but the weather is still rough  & will continue so until we get across the Bight. I have spoken only about the bad side of things during the last couple of days,  now  as to  the good. The crowd we have on board with us are a great lot although the Queenslanders do not come up to the NSW in that respect. The NSW bridgade seems to be & really are a picked lot - they are fine chaps &  I hope we follow them wherever they go.  

Of a night there are bunches of them gathered around the decks often singing hymns & as  a chap said to me "there seems to be some good stuff on board." This is also shown by the way those who are well attend on their sick mates. Of course none of the sickness is serious & is therefore attended with a degree of humour. For a chap to be sick is a great joke amongst his mates. All kinds of unsympathetic remarks are passed. such as "Look at this coming up". When dinner time came today one chap said "I think I will go down & give it a flutter."  He got  as far as the table & bolted. Another chap sitting on the rail of the lower deck looked up &  said to
