we are in high spirits & have good hope of arriving safely! I would very much like to tell you where we are going but of course I can't.
There is always a remote chance of getting a mail home by transferring the letters to a passing boat but beyond this I don't suppose you will hear from me in a long time & I from you for much longer. We have concerts sometimes of a night to pass away the time but the weather has been very unfavorable for this. However when we strike calm we will have sports & I believe a mouth organ band is being formed.

Today has been beautifully calm & being Empire Day a combined concert was held in the evening. Patriotic & other songs & items were rendered amongst which the A.M.C. [Army Medical Corps] artists shone. We have been out of sight of land for about 12 days & some of the boys have given up hope of ever seeing it again. However the song "There's a land" was announced during the program. The announcement immediately raised cries of " Where!" Some observant youth remarked "Behind your ear". Some of the interjections are great.

We are to be disappointed about landing somewhere but the mails will go ashore so I will close this with love to all from Verner
