Dear Sister,

Arrived at Cape Town last Thursday 8th inst.  & are still here. We had four hours leave that afternoon & next morning pulled out into the stream & are still here in full sight of the whole of the town about 400 yards out from shore & prisoners. However we made good use of the 4 hours leave. After having a good dinner a party of us had a car for the afternoon (5/-  each) & visited the Rhodes Home & Estate. This is about the finest sight in Cape Town and in its class is incomparable to anything I have seen, except perhaps Wentworth's old home - the same kind of thing only this place is modern and a real mansion. Its inhabited by the Prime Minister - General Botha - who was in residence there at the time we visited. The Estate is situated along the base of the Devil's Peak slightly on the rise & is about 8 square miles in area.
