Dear Dad,
Re your letter 27/5/17 in answer to mine No 37 in which I dealt, as you say, so extensively with the food problem.
I hope 38 was free from further reference to the subject which is nevertheless one essentially affecting the welfare of the soldiers in action both physically & morally. I will try & avoid any reversion to the matter herein.
We were not at all surprised at the result of the elections - nearly everyone voting for the national party as far as I could make out but the conscription issue was not as I expected although the votes here seemed to be fairly evenly divided. The most common motive, as far as I could make out, prompting the soldiers to vote "no" was one of pure sentimentalism. They looked at the question not wholly from a duty point of view but
