battalion we are attached to has only done one actual hopover following up in reserve the rest of the time. As a matter of fact it has been too much understrength to do much else. If you knew their numbers you would marvel how they accomplished so much. Before the 8th August stunt they were holding the line for a month & have been stunting ever since that date.

Last time I wrote to mother we were out for a few days' rest & when this stunt started we were in a few squads that were kept back to do bearing at the MDS. For two days we loaded & unloaded cars at the MDS. It is mighty strenuous work worse that on [indecipherable] stretcher bearing but the weather was hot & we worked in shorts & no shirts & being alongside the river had a rather fine time going in at least twice a day - we are as brown as indians.

However after a couple of days we came the expected "gutzer" & had to replace exhausted squads in the line. From then on we were pushed here & there relieving bearers at different posts & eventually becoming attached to the ... Battn RAP & kept with them till we pulled out a couple of days ago.

It is very interesting in an advance like this. You move up with the infantry
