such masonry for nowadays nothing like it is ever even attempted. The Knights stalls are also beautifully carved each one having the banner, helmet & coat of arms of its occupiers. There is one here for Lord Roberts & the King. The seats of the stalls are called Misericords. They have high arm supports & a little protrusion to sit on which is on a hinge & falls forward if allowed.The idea was that if the monks fell asleep during the long tedious services their  only support (by the arms) being gone the seat would fall forward thereby dislodge the occupant & incurring punishment.
