I was very sorry indeed to hear about poor old Joyce. It seems so strange to hear of anyone outside the war dying. Over here it is common place & one hears & receives news of deaths as a matter of course but it is quite different when it concerns anyone elsewhere partiularly in regard to women to die. Now and again we get some of the civil population through who get hit - the sight of a wounded woman is cruel whereas no notice is taken of men however bad. So it is with Joyce - it seems all so sad. I wrote to Mr Alanson & am waiting for Dicks & Harrys addresses to write to them. I am glad you sent that wreath along it is just what I would have liked.
So Johnny Leah has been along to see you. He is a very nice chap. I liked him very much. If he comes out to see you again ask him "has he seen the ducks go by". I must write to him & thank him. How did you like old Doc Donovan or "Harry" as we knew him. He was a fine chap - a great sport.
