we receive from Australia goes up on the wall. It is the best advertisement Australia ever got; you can hardly see the walls of our billet for Xmas cards & Australian wild flowers.

Goodbye for the present & love to all
from Verner

P.S. Just put a stamp on Jean's letter & send it down - green envelopes are very precious. Jack was reading an extract from one of his letters about the Division  being the best equipped  to  leave England. One chap said "Oh do dry up we know all about that  we had to carry it". There is not much  of it left now though - we learn to drop it as we go along & "acquire" little things that may be useful - for instance an extra blanket was worth making room for during the cold weather if you could manage  to "acquire" one - I did. You soon learn little tricks of the trade - long pants will be very cool for the summer - I have come by a pair of them. It is so hard to get anything out of the military by fair means that one learns to look after oneself. I lost something once - stolen -   & on report it was advised "What man has done man can do". Thats all the satisfaction I got.
