This is hooked on to our bodies. Just add all these together - Valise including our coat, socks & all underclothing - haversack filled with necessaries, water bottle full - mess tin & pouch - ration bag with 6-8 hours rations - blanket & waterproof sheet - gass masks 2, & helmet & our pockets cramed  with things. Sheep skin vest we will have to wear. Add to  all this another blanket, 150 rounds of ammunition & a rifle & you have the infantry man's load so we can't grovel. Of course their's is better  distributed than ours. Ours being practically all on the back. We are all looking forward to a 20 mile march with full kit up. We have also been issued with "Tommy" boots - huge black, heavy things. I have given them three coats of Neats foot oil so I reckon they will be well nigh water proof. Ces & I have just been down to say good bye  to Bill but he is having a couple of hours sleep prior to moving off at 2 am. Bill is a signaller & rides a bike. It was loaded up with all his kit - we could hardly lift it.

Jack & I sent a combined cable during the week end but we will not be leaving on the 21st as stated but two days later. The latest
