happens when you read in the official communiqués, "We entered the enemy's trenches east of ... last night".
Lately the weather had been cold & windy with snow but this is just the winter's waning effort. I am still on the post office job & having a good time. We have discovered a new place which sells apple fritters & every morning on the way down for the mail we have morning tea there - there are always a couple of volunteers who come for the mail with me.

Have just been reading an Anzac Bulletin & see that Bondi & Coogee are the most popular pleasure resorts. It says that never before have such crowds been seen at those beaches & that the tram traffic is unable to cope with the crowds. We wonder whether many men get there or are they all women. Today I posted to Myra a souvenir by registered post so look out for it.
Have received another letter from you dated 14/1/17 saying you were sending a parcel cont'g a pair of socks made by Amy Broome - thank her for me.
It is a good idea to have my letters typed - they will be much better than my diary to refer to but whatever you do don't have anything published. Some chap sent in a group to the
