PS. Re the clipping. It gives a very good idea of the conditions & the country. Re the shooting of the SB's. It is hard to give an opinion. On our left our chaps were carrying in sight of Fritz & they could see his SB's collecting the wounded. Some of both sides carried the white flag. On our sector we were carrying behind a ridge & not open to machine gun fire. Many SB's were killed by shells - that can't be helped - one shell killed the four bearers of a squad & the patient - the mud saved us many times. One of our squads was deliberately fired on by a German plane - he swooped on to them fired & missed - turned swooped & missed again. But for exceptional cases the enemy from what I have heard were very fair. Many of our boys declare that they were at the mercy of Fritz's machine guns had he chosen to fire on them. His bearers too were at our mercy. In no man's land they were exchanging wounded.
