After spending about ten days at the Adv. Dressing Station we moved down to the Baths. Nothing very exciting happened up at the trenches except that the last day we were there our relief was greeted by a violent bombardment by Fritz. A couple of shells landed about 100 yards from the dressing station & just missed a couple of our chaps bringing in a corps. Jack  & I  were doing gas picquet  one night when a bullet whizzed through the roof of the brick kiln but that is nothing.

One of our officers doing duty in the trench was caught bending by a machine gun & earned a Blighty wound the first of our unit to stop anything. The day we left the trenches Fritz put a few shells into the city & caught about half a dozen soldiers. When he does this we retaliate by bombarding a town just beyond his lines & he stops.

I "got up high" & had a look at this town the other day also saw Fritz's trenches & his kitchen smoking through a periscope. We often shell his kitchen when it smokes - then he sends back some whiz bangs
