The table in the Dining Room was set for dinner with solid silver cutlery & cruets all used by Cecil in his time.
To appreciate this home & estate one wants to take the day of for each room contains an hour's interest.
Coming back we drove around the city & saw most of the main buildings. These however do not come up to those at Durban. The streets are narrow like old Sydney as against Durban's well laid out & clean streets.
The Table Mountain, Devil's Peak, Lion's Head & Signal Hill are the peaks surrounding the town & seem to rise straight out of the sea to 4000 feet. The Town is very flat nestling at the foot of these hills which are generally invisible being hidden in the clouds. The pictures I have of them do not do justice to their rugged grandeur.
We expect to remain here for a week awaiting more transports & a convoy. We have mounted a 12 pounder gun.
Having a grand timeFrom Brother Verner
