happier man in France. I might say that the Col. has proved himself a fine fellow - he has a big heart & is well liked by all. Free beer was on at the canteen & some of the boys got a bit merry of course - this made things all the funnier.
When the Col. returned to the mess he was heard to tell the other officers that it was the finest thing he had seen & they all trooped over to have a look. One - Capt Harrison was so struck that he specially asked for a repeat on a larger & more elaborate scale. So that is what we are having in a week's time. We shifted again today & are in another good place - for the second time - the place I sent the table centre from. There are some bosker big woods here & we are turning using one for the dance. The country is all under snow now & looks beautiful in parts & desolate in others. We have been so comfortable since the beginning of the cold weather that we have not noticed it. For the past two months we have had the best time since landing over here - running D.R.S. behind the line & always
