all done by French women once. "Madame" is a very nice lady & was very concerned when I told her I was fatigué & was going a l'hospital.
Besides the Baths & the adv. dressing station our unit runs a main dressing station where the sick & wounded receive their first real treatment that is beyond the first aid rendered at the Regimental Aid Post & at our Adv. D.S. Wounded are brought from the trenches to the R.A.P. [Regimental Aid Post] in the back line trenches, sometimes further up, we collect them there & bring them to our A.D.S [Advanced Dressing Station] to treat them again if necessary & send them on by motor to the main D.S. [Dressing Station] In our case the R.A.P. [indecipherable] from the front line trench per trench so you can imagine what a terrific carry the regimental stretcher bearers had, then we had about ¾ mile carry through a communication trench by day & around a road by night. I only struck one stretcher bearer case all the time I was on duty - a chap got sniped through the knee one night.
