Up at 8. After breakfast went to the aerodrome. Cloudy day. Went up to test the A/W at 9.15. Just after I landed there was an awful smash. Sanders came down from 300 feet in a spin on an RE8. He was thrown clear by a miracle & not crushed. The machine was smashed to pieces. Went up again to test the A/W. Back to lunch at the mess & then to aerodrome again. Went up again in the A/W in the evening to test it. Went to town by the 6.23 from W. Croydon & went to dinner with Burney at the Cavendish Club. Went to see the "Man Who Went Abroad". A fairly good show. Had a great old yarn with Burney about things in general. A treat to meet another of the good old crowd. Back by the 12.15 & taxi to the "Dell". Ward wrote a topping letter to the C.O. about me – awfully good of him. Snow has got the M.C. – I am delighted!
Cable from Father – all well.
