Monday 8 January 1917
Up at 9. Very strong wind & heavy banks of clouds. Registration was impossible. Went up with Wadlow at 12.50 to try and do a special urgent reconnaissance of the Ferme Cour d'Avone but ran into a hailstorm & came down at 1.10. Had lunch and started off again at 1.55. Terrific wind blowing. Did the job and got five good photos of it. Ran through a very heavy rain storm on the way back. Never experienced such bumps before – it was a rough trip! Landed at 3.25.
I am worried about poor Mother & Father – no news about my transfer yet. I don't want to go to a soft job but I feel very miserable at the thought of their anxiety & do so wish it would come through and so save them worry.
