Monday 24 December 1917
Up at 9. After breakfast to the aerodrome. Very low clouds & rain. Went out by tender to Daventry with Glanville & flew his machine out of the field he had landed in. A very nasty job. Landed on aerodrome at 1. In afternoon about 3.30 I heard that I am posted to 62. So it has come at last. This means overseas at the end of January. Poor old Mother & Father – but it can't be helped! Packed in a great hurry & off to the Station with Segrave & Davis. Segrave & I caught the 5 train to Birmingham arriving at 6.30. Dinner at the Queen's Hotel. Took a room at the Midland Hotel. Wandered out & found a picture show that we went to till 10.30. Back to bed at the Hotel. We have to catch the train to Cirencester at 2.50 a.m.!! What a rum Christmas eve!
Cable to Mother & Father.
