Monday 29 October 1917
Up at 7 for early flying. Cold & frosty. Took Milne-Henderson up & gave him some loops, etc. Plenty of flying during the morning. In afternoon took Sgt. Rogers up & gave him many loops & a spin. Sent up a formation of 3 Fighters early in the afternoon which did not return. Heard about 6 p.m. that they had landed at Morton Marsh. Off about 7 with Segrave to the Vidals to dinner. A very nice evening. Had a great old dance. Segrave is going away to Yatesbury sometime soon so the happy family is to be broken up once more! It is a shame especially as he is being treated disgracefully. This blessed R.F.C. [Royal Flying Corps] makes me ill at times – it would be hard to find anywhere a worse crowd of self-seeking cutthroats.
