Monday 20 August 1917
Very misty in early morning. Up about 9.30. Gave Mollett some dual & he did a good solo before lunch. After tea a sergeant pilot from Northolt spun an RE8 after taking off & was killed. The machine burst into flames. I was sent out to examine the wreckage. It was a nasty sight. In evening did an engine test & gave a chap a joyride. Back to dinner about 9. Wandered round to the "Red Lion" afterwards with Pethy, George, Sanders & the Doctor. Back to bed.
