Thursday 23 August 1917
Completely "dud" day. No flying. In evening walked across the meadow with Sanders & hired a sailing boat & sailed back for dinner. Letter from Livock. Poor old Sayer has been killed and also Churchward. Luxton was caught in our own barrage & a shell knocked his right wing off but he got down & escaped with a bruised head.
