Saturday 6 January 1917
Up at 8.30. My engine was "dud" so I went up in 4547 with Burney at 10.5. Visibility poor and clouds from 1500-2000 feet. Registered three targets successfully with 61st DA Right, about 70 rounds in all. Up for 3¾ hours. Quite an enjoyable show.
Atkinson & Kellet went up at 11.15 a.m. & were not seen again. We were almost sure they were missing when at 8 p.m. we got a message that they had lost their way & landed near Abbeville! What a relief! Played Vingt et Un after dinner & lost a few francs.
Letter to Aunty Mary.
