Sunday 23 September 1917
Slept late. To 12 Mass at Farm Street. Fr. Bampton made a very weak & foolish apology for the Pope's Peace Note. Saw Sir Gerald Strickland in church but he left after the sermon. After lunch we went by taxi to Gerrards Cross, which was a complete "washout" as we could'nt even get any tea there. Drove back towards Uxbridge & had tea at a rather nice spot. Drove back to London via Ruislip, Northolt, & Ealing. A very good run in spite of Gerrards Cross! Stayed in after dinner & went to bed fairly early.
