Friday 27 July 1917
Up at 6 for early flying & gave both Clarkes some dual. Very windy & bumpy all day. Colonel Joubert came to inspect squadron about lunch time. Got the surprise of my life at lunch tea when the C.O. told me that Pethy's & my flights had come through at last! At the aerodrome till 8.15. Got both the Clarkes off solo. D.G.P. had an engine failure & made a very fine get in. L.F. did a good solo. Back to dinner & broke some "fizz" to celebrate the promotion. After dinner drove to the Clarendon & met Sly, Buck, & Durham. Home about 12.
