Saturday 2 February 1917
Up at 9. Freezing again. Fine but very misty. Took Simonds up for a joy ride at 10.50. Came back after 20 minutes as the engine was vibrating. Loafed in morning. Was going to do a shoot after lunch but a heavy mist came up. Went to the Hospital after dinner to say good bye to Winkley.
Spoke to Ward about going home. He was very decent & told me to send in an application. He rang up Waldron at Brigade & then told me not to apply. Apparently the General is going to work it for me. I do hope so.
Letter came from dear old Father written just after dear old Roger died. They are all the most wonderfully brave old people in the world. It was a beautiful letter. I only hope I can send them some good news soon.
