Thursday 21 June 1917
Up at 10 & had a swim before breakfast. A day off for the sports at Cirencester. Worked on my motor bike all the morning & up till 5 p.m. Raining on and off till 6 p.m. Went up in a Curtiss – an awful bus! Gave Morgan some dual on RE8. Dinner at 10 p.m.
Cable from Father saying that dear old Brendan was killed on the 14th. This is too awful. Poor old Auntie Jeannie & all of them, how I feel for them. I feel heartbroken about it. R.I.P. Maurice has gone to France. Please God he will come through safely.
