Saturday 3 March 1917
Up at 8. After breakfast went to aerodrome. Ordered to go to Wye about 10 o'clock to fly back a BE12. Rushed down to "the Dell" to change & then drove to Hither Green Station and caught the 11.24 train to Ashford. Changed trains & arrived at Wye at 1.15. Walked to the aerodrome with a chap I met on the train. There had just been a bad accident at Wye, a pupil killed on his first solo on a 2C. Had some lunch & then got the machine out but the engine wouldn't give its revs. Got it going all right & left Wye at 3.50 & got back to Croydon at 4.35 p.m. A good flight though 3000 was the highest I could get. Off to London with the C.O. & Barnes. Dinner at the Grosvenor & then to see "See Saw" – a good show. Lost them afterwards trying to get a taxi but met again at the Grosvenor & caught the 11.40 home.
