Friday 1 June 1917
Up at 4.30 & to aerodrome. 1st gun [?] Godwin was hit on the head by a propellor & badly injured. We left on the RE's at 5.50 & arrived at Oxford at 7 a.m. A good trip. All machines arrived eventually except a BE12 & a Mono which was crashed. Had breakfast about 9 at the Trout Inn. The aerodrome is a wonderful one & the camp is in a lovely spot on the river. In afternoon drove to Oxford in the Met & hired a canoe which I paddled up to the camp. A long pull that took 2 hours. Everything is at sixes & sevens at present but this is a delightful spot & we ought to have a great time here.
