Poor little Crow has been killed. Turner has been wounded
Wednesday 2 May 1917
Up at 6 for early flying. Took McNeil and Boniksen up in RE8. Sent McNeil off solo about 8. He took off badly but got going well till he tried a flat turn over Purley. He started a slow flat spin & suddenly fell in a spinning nose dive. An awful sight. I dashed out on my bike. He was badly hurt – fractured skull & broken leg. I can't imagine how he was'nt killed outright – the machine was the most appalling wreck I've ever seen. A heavy haze prevented flying after breakfast. Went to town about 5 by car with Sly. Saw Keith at the Empire Hospital. Met Brock at his flat. Dinner with him & his brother, mother, etc. at the Berkley & then to see "Cheep" – a good show. Drove home with Brock.
