Sunday 10 June 1917
Up at 5 for early flying. Gave Brown a lot of landings. Breakfast about 10. Back to aerodrome after & worked hard all day till 10 p.m. doing just five hours dual. At the end Shanks did an awful landing that I could'nt save & crashed the undercarriage & bottom plane of my dear old dual bus. Absolutely fagged out after a tiring day & work. Poor old "Willie" Redmond died of wounds on the 7th. What a wonderful old chap he was. R.I.P. I feel awfully sad about it.
