Monday 28 May 1917
Up at 7 & to aerodrome but didn't fly as my machine was not servicable yet. Down to breakfast at 9 & back at 10. Went up on RE8 to lead a formation but the other RE landed. Went up again later & lead a formation. Down to lunch. Brocklehurst came to say good bye – he reports for East Africa tomorrow. Played rather awful game of tennis with Elliott. Back to the aerodrome at 5. Gave Balwin [possibly Baldwin referred to on next page] about ¾ of an hour dual in the RE & then another spell in the front seat. He is doing very well. Stayed at aerodrome till 10.15 till night flying was over.
