Tuesday 25 December 1917
Up at 2 a.m.! Caught the 2.50 to Cheltenham. Waited there from 4.30 till six & had tea & meat pies at the Y.M.C.A. Caught a train at 6 arriving in Cirencester at 6.50. Walked to the Kings Head & woke them up to enquire about a taxi. Segrave walked out to Barnsley. I had an excellent breakfast at the Kings Head & then went to 8.30 Mass. Back to the Kings Head & got a car. Picked up my kit at the station & drove to the aerodrome. Had a wash & shave. Drove to the Rectory. Yarned till lunch time. In the afternoon Margaret & I went for a walk. After tea we danced. Up to the Park to dinner. A most cheery party – charades & dancing. Back to the Rectory about 11.30. Had a few more dances & then to bed. A very strenuous but excellent day!
