Thursday 4 January 1917
Up at 9. Raining & windy. The list of mentioned in dispatches came out – not one of the squadron got a mention! It is a damned shame, considering the work Parr, Wood, Rodwell, Wainwright, Pearson & others have done. Cleared up a bit at midday. I went up with Kellett at 1.10 & registered 150 N on three front line targets from 1000 feet. Landed at 3.40. Fired about 30 rounds altogether. Very strong wind & cloudy & misty.
Loafed till dinner time.
Night flying started about 6.30. I went up at 9.35. After the first few minutes of strangeness it was delightful. After being up for 20 minutes landed quite decently, though my flare went out at the last moment & left me in the dark.
